  1. 01What this site aims for

The intention is that this site meets the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2 at level AA: usable with a keyboard alone, readable when text is enlarged, workable with a screen reader, and legible without relying on colour to carry meaning.

That is the aim. The next clause is what has actually been measured, and the two do not currently agree.

  2. 02What has been measured, and what failed

No conformance claim is made on this page. An automated contrast audit of this site’s rendered pages returned a failure: five distinct colour-contrast defects, appearing 29 times across the public pages. They are not fixed.

The two that matter most to a reader:

    • Some primary buttons render text against a background of nearly the same tone, at a contrast ratio far below the 4.5:1 that level AA requires for body text. Where that happens the button is still operable and still reachable by keyboard, but the label on it is hard to read.
    • The research-use statement in the footer is set small and light enough to fall below the same threshold on every public page. That sentence is the most important one on this site, and it is currently the least legible.

These are recorded rather than quietly carried because an accessibility statement that lists no problems is almost always a statement nobody has tested.

  3. 03What is built in

Some things are structural rather than aspirational and are worth stating because they can be checked:

    • Every page begins with a skip link that jumps straight to the main content.
    • Pages are built from real headings, lists and tables rather than styled text, so a screen reader is given the structure rather than having to infer it.
    • Wide tables scroll inside their own container, so enlarging the text does not push the whole page sideways.
    • The site works without a Firebase connection and without optional cookies; refusing them does not remove functionality.
  4. 04Telling us about a problem

If something on this site is unusable for you, please say so through the contact page. Describing the page and what happened is enough; you do not need to identify the technical cause.

We aim to acknowledge an accessibility report within five working days.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can escalate to the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) at equalityadvisoryservice.com, or to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk where the issue concerns digital service provision.
